Hi! I’m Mina Tari (she/her), a fifth year PhD Candidate in Information School at the University of Washington, advised by Hala Annabi. My committee members are Amy KoAnna Lauren Hoffman, and Eve Riskin.

I live in the intersection of computing education, information systems, and feminist theory. My research is interested in women of color’s experiences in introductory computing courses. Currently, I’m focusing on how nationality of Asian and Pacific Islanders impacts a sense of belonging in computing, as well as how the role of undergraduate TAs can mitigate barriers. I focus on working within both academic and industry settings.

I’m part of the ACCESS-IT research group, led by my advisor Hala Annabi, where we focus on improving representation of women in the IT industry. I’m also a member of the Code & Cognition lab, led by Amy Ko. I am currently a National Science Foundation (NSF) Graduate Research Fellow and was previously a UW Graduate Opportunities and Minority Achievement Program (GO-MAP) Research Fellow.

My undergraduate degrees were in Informatics and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies, also at the UW.
